A few days ago an editorial article in the local Philly newspaper criticized Jeannette Rankin in part because of her implicit support of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W. or Wobblies). Today's The Philadelphia Inquirer front page contains the following:
The I.W.W. was founded in 1905 and gained strength as a union organized to include all industrial workers, not just specific tradesmen. Its sometimes radical tactics and lack of support for the U.S. entry into World War I led to significant disfavor of it's policies and eventually to a significant diminution of its membership.
Here is the current website for the I.W.W.
Historical coverage of the I.W.W. can be found at britannica.com and the University of Washington.
