June 15, 1918 - Infant mortality

Today Mary is still considering a job change.  In the meantime there was an article in The Philadelphia Inquirer about infant mortality.

Across the United States in the 1910s infant mortality hovered around 100 per 1,000 live births.

In 2017 the United States infant mortality rate was 5.8 with Mississippi having the worst infant mortality of 8.8 per 1,000 live births.  While infant mortality has fallen dramatically over the past century, the United States ranks worst in infant mortality amongst the 20 wealthiest countries, ranking worse than about 50 countries overall.

CNN  had a detailed report on infant mortality in January 2018.
