Mannfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen (the Red Baron) was born in Prussia in 1892 and died April 21, 1918 from a ground-fired bullet wound sustained while flying for the "The Flying Circus" German fighter wing unit near Vaux-sur-Somme in northern France.
