April 16, 1918 - Movie day
Today Mary goes with her sister Nora to the Great Northern Theatre to see "Love Me" starring Dorothy Dalton. Her reference to Miss Erwick in the movie is unclear, unless her sentence is awkwardly constructed to mean she attended the movie also with a Miss Erwick.
There is a picture and some history of the Great Northern Theatre at cinematreasures.org. According to other sources, prints of the movie still exist at the Library of Congress and also at the Academy Film Archive (Beverly Hills).
"Love Me" was a five reel feature film. Early silent movies were only on one reel (1,000 feet) of film lasting approximately 11-17 minutes. By 1918 five reel films of 50 minutes or more duration were common and newspaper advertisements for movies appear to primarily promote these feature films.
