September 9, 1918 - Air Mail

Mary had sole responsibility at work today with her colleague being on vacation.  Probably as a result, but like usual at the end of the day she was "awful tired" and was soon "off for bed."

Today's Evening Public Ledger had a small front page article about air mail:

While there were trial air mail flights in the few years before 1918, the first regularly scheduled air mail flights began on May 15, 1918 with flights between New York City and Washington, D.C. stopping en route at Philadelphia.  A detailed history of United States air mail can be found at usps.com.
