September 13, 1918 - German losses at the front

While Mary still awaits a letter from her Frankie fighting in France, local newspapers are replete with headlines about American and Allied victories which have increased since the American military involvement has peaked.  Philadelphia has just lost some men in the war effort.  300,000 Philadelphians have just registered for the draft as the draft age was extended down to age 18 and up to age 45.  General Pershing predicts that the war will be over in 1919 if there is continued support.  The war is actually drawing more rapidly to a close, to end in just under two months.
