August 5, 1918 - Mother's birthday
A major day for Mary today. She receives a card from her dear Frankie, serving overseas in France. She writes in her diary: "there is only one and it's you, just you."
But today is also her mother's birthday. Mary's mother died in 1910 of pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 43. Mary went to mass today "as a birthday present for her" and she almost feels that her mother reciprocated by having the card from Frankie delivered the same day. "...a mother's love is the greatest Love of all."
Mary's sister, Florence died at age 26 in 1914, also of pulmonary tuberculosis.
